Request for Proposal
Winning Connections Web Site Update

Background

Winning Connections is the nation’s leading telephone voter contact and grassroots advocacy firm for progressive candidates and causes.  The company has developed and conducted programs for more than 2,000 candidates and campaigns in 49 states since 1996.  During the election campaign last fall, Winning Connections conducted 20 million phone calls on behalf of candidates and organizations.

The company differentiates itself from its competitors primarily through its emphasis on taking a strategic, research-driven approach.  In practice, this means leveraging research from academia, political field experiments, and studies we commission to deliver an effective political contact. Winning Connections reaches out and engages key voters with programs that employ strategic targeting, carefully crafted messages, and language customized to move individual voters.  For Winning Connections, political calls are not a commodity but rather a tool for one-to-one interaction with voters.

Project Description

Winning Connections’ Web site, http://www.WinningConnections.com, needs an update.  The most pressing current issue is the breakdown of our content publishing system, which has not allowed us to meaningfully update the content of the site in over a year.  In addition, we wish to revise and expand the existing site architecture to accommodate additional content. Additional work may be approved based on the recommendations of the developer.

In general, the firm is satisfied with the overall look, feel, and navigation of the site, although graphical and design recommendations are welcome

Scope of Work

Content Publishing System
Currently we use a content publishing system based on WordPress blogging software.  However, the system is unreliable and often prevents the firm from making desired content updates. In addition, the original developer built a separate database to manage our client list that is currently inaccessible. Both of the systems need to be repaired or replaced so that we may easily update the site at our convenience.

Please note that we expect the developer to support whatever content management system is installed.  Winning Connections is willing to enter into a long-term relationship with the developer to make sure the site as a whole is properly supported.

Site Architecture Expansion/Revision
In addition to the architecture already present, we would like to expand the site to include:
- Client testimonials area with quotes from past clients and a brief description of the services we provided to them
- Additional pages targeted at each “type of client: candidates, interest groups, associations, etc…

Additional Work
The developer is welcome to propose additional work regarding look/feel, navigation, graphics, etc.

Tasks

The developer is responsible for all programming and back-end manipulation.  Winning Connections will provide all content to the developer, and will provide input and guidance on our preferences. The developer is not expected to write or edit any copy.

Qualifications and Evaluation Criteria

Winning Connections is seeking a developer who…
- Has a strong track record of developing quality websites
- Understands the online needs of a small business
- Is willing to enter support whatever changes are made and possibility enter into a long-term relationship
- No political experience required
